Vasectomy

Vasectomy is a procedure to divide the sperm conducting tube (vas deferens) in the scrotum.  This tube carries sperm from the testicle into the body to be passed into the prostate.  This tube is surgically divided through a small operation and ensures a very secure means of contraception for the patient .

Vasectomy is performed as a short procedure under local anaesthetic.  A single incision is made in the middle of the upper part of the scrotum.  The vas tubes are identified and divided in two.  Both ends are securely tied to prevent any chance of joining back together.  The ends of the tubes are buried in separate muscular layers in the scrotum to provide additional security against these tubes joining back together.  No sutures are used to close the skin.
